Franconia Notch State Park - The Basin

We explored around The Basin watching the river and ice, it was all so pretty and interesting. We hiked up the Cascade Brook Trail a little ways and saw some frozen falls. It was a fairly easy trail. Click for a map of the trails in the park. Franconia Hiking Map

Franconia Notch State Park - Flume Gorge

Flume Gorge
This was a lot of fun. It was an easy hike up to the gorge, no skis or snow shoes required. Wear cleats and/or bring poles though. We ran into a lot of ice. They remove most of the walkways so you can't get into the gorge unless you are ice climbing, but you can get close enough to see a good amount without paying and avoiding crowds of the summer!
Covered Bridge!

So much ice from the river

It was a rough trip to the top, but we made it! The view sure made it all worth it.

Just a sea of mountains

Here we are, gross and sweaty.
